Getting started

Briefing

Briefing provides you with the opportunity to meet other undergraduate researchers, learn about the opportunities available during your time as a URSS student, work through the activities in the Student Handbook and understand how the URSS Dashboard works.

Postgraduate Research Poster Competition

An opportunity for you to network with current PhD students, learn about the breadth of research taking place at Warwick, and learn useful insider hints and tips about Poster design and creation.

Researcher Training Day

This special training opportunity provides you with tips and tools to enhance your effectiveness as a researcher for this summer and beyond. The day involves a mixture of fun activities, group tasks, plenary sessions, and a Q&A with this year's Postgraduate Poster Competition winners.

Through a range of fun activities and group tasks, you will build your understanding, skills and confidence in:

  • communication;
  • planning and time management;
  • problem solving;
  • leadership;
  • assertiveness;
  • poster design and creation;
  • writing for publication.

Keeping going

During your project, you will have access to:

  • URSS Portfolio - an gateway to the large undergraduate research community participating in the URSS this year.
  • Postgraduate mentors - a source of advice, guidance and support throughout your project.
  • Coffee catch-ups - for those on campus, a chance to meet up and swop stories about research highs and lows.
  • Wolfson Research Exchange – a postgraduate researcher space for study and networking.
  • Library: support for research – the library offers advice and training on a range of research software and accessing archives.

Finishing off

To complete your URSS, by Wednesday 16th October 2013 you are required to:

  • complete all the reflective blogs on the URSS Dashboard;
  • produce an A1 poster of your research findings and either submit it online at Warwick Print or bring a printed copy to Student Careers and Skills Help desk in the Learning Grid, University House;
  • write your findings into an abstract outlining your research findings;
  • complete a short profile of your experiences and the outcomes of your research project.

To support you with this, we offer:

  • postgraduate mentor who is on hand to help you complete your reflective blogs;
  • creating and designing a poster e-course 
  • Training on publication and poster design: date and location to be confirmed.
  • Poster Showcase and Award Ceremony: date and location to be confirmed.
  • Training on writing for publication in September and October – dates to be confirmed.
  • Learning Grid Advisors they can advise on research, multimedia and presentation skills.

Keeping in touch

The URSS team and your PG Mentor will keep in touch with you via the blog you set up in Briefing 1.

A regular URSS Digest will be sent out to you on both the blogs and email to provide you with information on any updates and events that may be of interest.

The URSS team will use the email address you specified on myAdvatage; please make sure this is the most appropriate email to reach you during your project and do check it!

Final year students

Finalists must notify both the URSS team and their supervisor that their project will continue after graduation so that IT access and email accounts can be organised.
