Development Goal 2

Complete this when you have achieved your researcher development goal 1.

What was the objective you set yourself?

I would like to compare qualitative and quantitative research data

What actions did you take to achieve it?

I got to grips with microsoft Excel (by doing ECDL level 2). I met with a PHD student of sociology and anthropology connected with the university allotment project. He was also researching Coventry allotments, and explained how to find out where they were (by using internet maps, I found out that there are no allotments in CV1), also principals of ethnographic research

How do you know you have achieved your goal?

I can make an argument for poetry being everthing, but also explain that temporal restrictions have limited my project - the academic requirements for quantitative research fall beyond its bounds for this reason.

That said, I designed a professional table for my poster, which compared a 10% sample of vegetables grown on two allotments near CV1, with vegetables which cropped up in recipe poems - as a percentage. That way, in my analysis, I could talk about correlations between favourite vegetables eaten (onions) and grown (broad beans).

What new or existing skills have you developed as a result of achieving this objective?

I improved my Microsoft Excel skills. I developed insight into the offerings of the scientific method, and what the proces of art offers academic research.

How will these support your research project, studies or career?

I have deepened my understanding of, and respect for the discipline of poetry as research.

If you were to set yourself the same objective again, what would you do differently?
