Travel advice for students travelling aboard

Please note the current travel advice if you are planning to do your URSS project overseas.

At present students travelling to China are not insured. If you make advanced travel arrangements but the FCO then advise against travel due to Coronavirus claims will not be paid. If you do decide to go ahead and plan your trip try to find flights and accommodation that can be cancelled at minimal or no cost as you will not be covered by the University policy or be reimbursed by the University.

If you are a Chinese national and book a flight to return to China you will not be covered by the University’s travel policy. You will need to arrange your own insurance cover.

Travel to Hong Kong is still covered by the University's travel policy but we would strongly advise that flights and accommodation should only be booked if they can be cancelled at minimal or no cost. Please be aware that there is also a risk that Hong Kong Universities may still be closed and if you need to cancel your trip as a result of the closures the insurers and the University will not cover your costs.

The FCO advice should be monitored daily if you are planning to travel to a country that is associated with any health or safety risk. All URSS students travelling outside the UK will be required to complete a detailed risk assessment.
