Evaluating Cyber Security Education in the USA – Courses, Structures, and CyBOK Alignment
Project Leader
Description
This four-week desktop literature survey project evaluates cyber security education in the USA, mirroring Project 2 but focusing on US programs. You will list degrees from leading institutions (e.g., MIT, Carnegie Mellon, Stanford, Georgia Tech), examine module structures, and align with CyBOK's framework to compare breadth/depth (e.g., NCAE-C designated schools like over 400 NSA-affiliated programs).
Objectives
- Compile a list of 20-30 cyber security degrees (e.g., Carnegie Mellon's BS in Cybersecurity, MIT's programs, or affordable options like St. Philip's College).
- Break down module structures (e.g., forensics, malware analysis) from university sites.
- Align content to CyBOK categories, noting US emphases (e.g., more on Infrastructure Security) and gaps.
Methods
Review US News rankings, NSA NCAE lists, and university catalogs (e.g., Virginia Tech, UC Berkeley). Map to CyBOK using spreadsheets. Compare with UK trends for cross-regional insights.
Expected outcomes
A 15-20 page report with US course listings, module analyses, CyBOK mappings, and comparative notes. Your contributions will be acknowledged in the same publication as Evaluating Cyber Security Education in the UK project.
Duration
4 weeks (part time, ~ 20 hours/week; suitable for collaboration with Evaluating Cyber Security Education in the UK project)
