Unlock the Past - Undergraduate Research Opportunity in Palaeontology

Would you like to apply analytical techniques to ancient data to unravel the true history of different animal groups?

Hi, I am Dr Daniel Cashmore, I work in the Widening Participation Team at the university, but I have a background in palaeontology. Are you fascinated by ancient life and Earth's history? If so, then this is your chance to dive into the world of palaeontology—even though it’s not a course offered at our university! I am keen to support any students that would be interested in participating in palaeontological research through the Undergraduate Research Support Scheme. My expertise lies in the completeness of the fossil record, and how biases have impacted our interpretation of the evolution of different animal groups. Typical projects under this research focus will be desk-based, involve the study of a variety of fossil skeletal morphologies, significant literature data collection, and quantitative data analysis.

This is a unique opportunity to learn about prehistoric life while gaining valuable research experience!
