Analysing Themes in Human Behaviours and Personality Traits in Cybersecurity Compliance
Project Leader
Description
This four-week desktop literature survey project focuses on human behaviours in academia, specifically exploring how personality traits and motivational factors influence compliance with information systems security policies (ISSP). You will start with a collection of supplied papers (e.g., the manuscript "To comply or not to comply" on motivational profiles using Self-Determination Theory and the Five Factor Model) and analyse recurring themes such as amotivation as a barrier, autonomous motivation boosting compliance, and SDT-based interventions for autonomy, competence, and relatedness.
Objectives
- Identify and categorise key themes from the supplied papers on personality, motivation, and ISSP compliance.
- Discover and summarise 5-10 new relevant papers through academic databases.
- Synthesise findings into a report highlighting gaps and implications for cybersecurity education.
Methods
Review supplied papers (e.g., via PDF analysis for themes like CFA validation and latent profile analysis). Use tools like Google Scholar, IEEE Xplore, or ACM Digital Library to search for new papers with keywords such as "self-determination theory ISSP compliance" or "personality traits cybersecurity behaviours." Organise themes using tools like Excel or NVivo for qualitative analysis.
Expected outcomes
A 15-20 page report with thematic analysis, annotated bibliography of new papers, and recommendations for future research. Your contributions will be acknowledged in a resulting publication on human factors in cybersecurity.
Duration
4 weeks (part time, ~ 20 hours/week)
