Warwick to co-host International Children's Games 2022

Monday 29 November 2021

The University of Warwick will be co-hosting the International Children's Games from 11 -16 August 2022 in partnership with Coventry City Council, Coventry University and CV Life.

ICG 2022 is a major international event, approved by the International Olympic Committee that will host seven sports in Coventry that include athletics, basketball 3 on 3, climbing, football 6 a side, swimming, table tennis and tennis. Almost 2,000 children aged 12-15 years will be attending from cities all over the world with their teams to compete in the Games.

We’ll be hosting competitors at our multi award-winning campus hospitality venues, Warwick Conferences, and also supporting the climbing, table tennis, athletics and football events at our world-class sport facilities such as the Sports and Wellness Hub.

This is the second time that Warwick has co-hosted the Games. After a successful Games in 2005, Coventry will be the first UK City to host the event for the second time.

Lisa Dodd-Mayne, Director of Sport & Active Communities, said:

We’re absolutely thrilled to be one of the co-host venues for the International Children’s Games in 2022. Warwick has a fantastic array of residential, conferencing and sports facilities, including our world-class Sports and Wellness Hub, that is ideally equipped to welcome the best young sporting talent from cities across the world.

We’re passionate about making a real tangible difference to the health and wellbeing of children in our local community so are excited about supporting a programme that will help to inspire the sporting stars of the future.

Warwick has significant experience in hosting sports events, conferences & training camps, from single international athletes to groups of 5,000 sportspeople. We’re ready and geared up to welcome the young sporting stars to Warwick in 2022."
