Care Experienced Student and Care Leaver Form

Warwick offers a wide range of pastoral, academic and financial support for students who come to study here. We also have a named contact for care experienced young peopleLink opens in a new window and independent students who are care leaversLink opens in a new window at the University so that you have a single point of contact both before you get here and during your studies.

Please complete the form below so that we can signpost you to the most appropriate support available.  

Definitions of 'care experienced' and 'care leaver' status

Care experiencedLink opens in a new window: this means that you have been looked after for at least 3 months at any point in your childhood

Care leaverLink opens in a new window: this means that you are care experienced and that you were in the care of your local authority for at least 13 weeks at any time since the age of 14, and were in care on your 16th birthday

This care may have been provided in many different settings, including:

  • Living with foster carers
  • Living in a residential children's home
  • Being looked after at home under a supervision order
  • Living with relatives under a guardianship agreement
  • Being looked after before adoption (in the UK or abroad)

If you are under 19, have left care and have been living independently, we can also offer you additional support. Please email Emily and the Lifecycle Team at lifecycleteam@warwick.ac.uk if you have any questions about completing the form.

You will need to be able to provide evidence to support your circumstances – a signed letter or email from a Social Worker, Personal Advisor or School Contact confirming you have been in care prior to taking up your place at Warwick or evidence that you have been in receipt of Income Support and Housing Benefit during your post-16 education.

If you were adopted as a child, we are also able to accept other forms of evidence that confirm you were in care for 3 or more months (in the UK or abroad).

However, within the University, your personal information may be shared with relevant colleagues such as: Admissions, Welfare, Accommodation, Careers & Skills, Student Funding and Disability Services.

We keep all personal data in accordance with our Information and Records Management Policy and the University Records Retention Schedule.

Your personal data will be retained while your learner relationship with the University continues and up to 2 years after it ceases. Holding data for this duration will enable us to offer ongoing support, information, advice and guidance from the University.

 

Your rights:

 

You have the right to request access to and rectification or erasure of personal data, or restriction of processing concerning you, or to object to processing, as well as the right to data portability. If our lawful basis for processing your personal data is your consent – you have the right to withdraw it at any time.
