Work Placements

Please find below a list of work experience placement opportunities available for you to apply for over the summer, as part of the Pathways to Banking & Finance programme. We have secured work experience placements with Standard Life Aberdeen, Business Growth Fund (BGF) and Natwest Group.

To apply for any of the below placements, please complete the short form by midnight on Sunday 27th June 2021. Please note: you can apply for as many of the below opportunities that interest you using the same form.

There are limited places on each of the below opportunities. The Pathways team will shortlist applications after the deadline and confirm the outcome of your application via email.

1. Standard Life Aberdeen (Monday 23rd - Friday 27th August 2021)

Format of work experience placement: Virtual

Platform: MS Teams or Zoom

Standard Life Aberdeen are a global investment company with approximately 6,000 employees around the world. We aim to help clients become better investors. Our business is organised around three vectors which reflect the range of solutions we deliver for our clients and customers – investments, personal and advisor. As an organisation, we want to make a positive and lasting contribution to the future world, as well as creating a workplace environment where people can thrive. In April 2021 we announced that we intend to change our name to Abrdn plc.

What you can expect a placement with Standard Life Aberdeen:

Students will spend a week with members of the Private Markets and Real Estate Investments teams. They will gain an insight into the investments process for asset classes as Private Equity, Infrastructure and Real Estate. Students will be given an assignment to complete throughout the duration of the week and will be asked to present to Investment Managers at the end.

2. Business Growth Fund (Wednesday 28th - Thursday 29th July 2021)

Format of work experience placement: Mixed form - hybrid of virtual & face-to-face elements

Office Location: The Lewis Building, 35 Bull St, Birmingham B4 6AF

Platform: TBC

What you can expect from a placement with BGF:

BGF is excited to offer a two-day work experience programme for young people between the ages of 16-18.
 
We will provide a thorough, interactive and fun overview of a career in growth investing, including the ways we fund and support some of the country's most exciting entrepreneurs. You'll get the opportunity to find out more about the vital roles that support our investments - such as finance, marketing, legal and HR. And you’ll learn about our company culture, as well receiving some valuable professional skills training.

3. Natwest Group Work Experience (Monday 2nd - Friday 6th August 2021)

Format of work experience placement: Virtual

Platform: TBC

We're looking forward to hosting students for our virtual insight week where we'll cover sessions such as:

* Presentation skills workshop
* Who we are and what we do
* Employability skills
* Networking sessions with our graduates, apprentices and business leaders
* Developing your skills to get you ready for the world of work

Throughout the week, you'll also work with other students on a project which you'll present back on the final day.
