WIE Conference 2026 - Suggest a session

Thursday 26 March, 9am-4:30pm - Ramphal Building

We're building a programme of content for our conference shaped by you. We want to hear from Fellows, Learning Circles, and anyone else who wants to host a conversation about Public Engagement.

The conference is predominantly attended by Warwick staff and students, with some community members and University partners interested in Public Engagement too. We'll be building in multiple points over the day for networking and discussion to give all our attendees space to get to know new faces and meet new people.

Format of the day*

*Subject to change depending on what gets submitted

9am - Registration and Networking

9:30 - 10:45am Opening Plenary led by WIE and some invited guests.

10:45am - Break

11am - Choice of breakout sessions

12 pm - Choice of breakout sessions

12:50pm - Lunch

2pm - Choice of breakout sessions

3pm - Choice of breakout sessions

4pm - Join us for posters, table top activities, performances, networking and drinks to close the day

4:30pm - Close

What kind of session can I submit?

We're open to most things! To help with scheduling we have 2 options for session length that you can choose from, but within that time how you want to structure your session is up to you. You can look back at last years conference if you want to get some ideas, or email us if you have an idea but need support coming up with a session plan - we'd be happy to find a time to help you refine your ideas.

25 Minute Spotlight Session (normally information sharing and a short Q&A). We'll schedule 2 of these back to back in one break out slot.
50 Minute Workshop - These will form the majority of sessions and we'd normally expect there to be an element of interaction and discussion.

How many people will attend? Will my proposed session definitely go ahead?

We want this conference to be led by the people attending so we're not aiming to turn down proposals and we'll try to run as many of the proposed sessions as is sensible (i.e. that there will be enough people to attend them on the day). However if there are sessions where similar themes are being suggested we may come back to you and suggest you work together, or if there is a lot of demand to run activities then we may need to be selective.

What topics are you looking for?

We are happy to accept sessions on any topic to do with public engagement, however to help get the creative juices flowing, these are some of the suggestions people have asked for previously:

Getting started in public engagement
How to engage people through online platforms
How to evaluate public engagement activity
Spaces to bring challenges people are facing with their engagement practice and reflect with peers
Hearing examples of practice and then have space to discuss them on tables
Examples of some of the work/case studies/outputs from some of the learning circles

This years theme explores the Impacts of engagement, so we especially welcome sessions to do with this theme - however we don't expect every session relate to this and welcome a variety of submissions.

If you have an idea for a session you'd like to see at the conference, but you don't want to run it yourself you can also tell us about your idea by emailing wie@warwick.ac.uk. We might not be able to run all of these, but we'll use your ideas to inform our programme where possible.
