Purpose
The International Engagement Learning Circle brings together colleagues interested in strengthening public engagement through international collaboration and shared learning.
We explore how universities and partners across different countries and institutional contexts approach inclusive public engagement, including the structures, incentives, funding models and partnerships that enable effective engagement.
Through comparative research, invited speakers, case studies and knowledge-exchange activities, the Learning Circle aims to identify transferable good practice, strengthen international partnerships, and create opportunities for collaboration across the Warwick community and beyond.
Our Current Project
Our Learning Circle is leading a project titled “How Universities Support Public Engagement? A Comparative Global Study of Institutional Structures, Incentives and Barriers”, exploring how universities across different institutional and cultural contexts support public engagement. By examining institutional structures, incentives, barriers and examples of good practice, the project aims to develop a practical framework and toolkit to support more meaningful, inclusive and sustainable public engagement across higher education.
Upcoming Events
In November 2026, our Learning Circle will welcome two guest speakers from the University of Warwick and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, bringing together perspectives from psychology, public engagement and international collaboration. The session will explore how psychological research can inform meaningful and inclusive engagement with diverse communities, while comparing experiences and approaches across the UK and China. The event will provide an opportunity to exchange good practice, strengthen interdisciplinary and international connections, and explore opportunities for future collaboration between the two institutions.

Our Learning Circle welcomes colleagues from across Warwick and our international networks who are interested in public engagement, international collaboration and inclusive practice. We encourage colleagues to contribute to our current projects, join Learning Circle discussions and events, share international perspectives and good practice, and help shape future activities and collaborations.

Our Work and Impact
Our Learning Circle has brought together colleagues from across Warwick and international partner institutions to share approaches to inclusive public engagement, international collaboration and knowledge exchange. Our work has included developing international case studies of public engagement practice, inviting guest speakers to share perspectives from different institutional and cultural contexts, and creating opportunities for colleagues to exchange learning and build new connections.
The Learning Circle has also contributed to activities across the EUTOPIA alliance, including supporting the Knowledge Bazaar showcasing research and innovative approaches to public engagement at Warwick, contributing to training sessions for researchers from across EUTOPIA, and collaborating with colleagues on activities related to Citizen Science and Co-Production. Building on this work, we are now developing our comparative international research, guest speaker programme and wider collaborations.
