Warwick Institute of Engagement 2023 Conference: Exploring the way ahead for Public Engagement at Warwick
The first WIE Network conference took place on Thursday 23rd March and was a great success. The day was rich with interactions, exploration, sharing of knowledge and feedback. Notes and feedback from the sessions will be made available in the near future. You can browse still browse the programme via the link, and catch up on notes and session recording on our catch up page.
The Annual WIE Fellows Celebration
On Thursday 9th March the WIE Fellowship gathered to celebrate the appointment of our 22 new fellows but also the completion of the two year tenure of our foundation fellows. We were able to raise a glass and wish them well as they move on to be alumni fellows and fly the Public Engagement flag elsewhere. Despite the adverse weather conditions it was excellent to see so many familiar faces and to celebrate all that has been achieved in the past 2 years.
WIE welcomes 22 new fellows!
22 new fellows have joined WIE in February 2023. Find out more about our new fellows here.
'Creativity at the Heart’ on Wed 15th March at 3pm (Occulus) is the first session in our new CO-LAB series.
You may have noticed the increasing overlaps between the creative arts and so-called STEM subject in recent years. Initially, this often took the form of the sciences using the arts to communicate their messages and broaden their appeal – think Brian Cox using Doctor Who to talk about space-time. In recent times this has shifted. Much more attention is being given to the deeper ways in which creative, artistic work is helping to drive new research questions and methods in the sciences – across the board. Think of the immersive ‘Voyage to the Edge of Imagination’ exhibition at the Science Museum in London, which shows how sci fi culture has helped us envisage new possibilities and actually shaped scientific progress in all kinds of ways. It’s this we want to dive into on 15th March. We have a great line up of speakers already, including Warwick researchers, artists and creatives, freelancers from the cultural sector leaders. So, if this interests you, put the date in your diary and sign up via the link for CO-LAB 1.0.
CO-LAB is a new flexible sharing forum in which Warwick colleagues of all levels can showcase, pitch, network and learn about the collaborative work that is being done in research, teaching and learning, and elsewhere across the university. Find out more here, including how we can help you to run your own CO-LAB
EUTOPIA TRAIN Citizen Science Clinics
Are you facing specific challenges in your citizen science work? Would you like an opportunity to share difficulties and feedback? Do you feel you would benefit from some insight from colleagues across Europe?
Welcome to the EUTOPIA TRAIN Citizen Science Clinic!Link opens in a new window
The Clinics are an online workshop series specially designed to share challenges and ideas for your citizen science work. Each workshop first focuses on one person’s situation. The session is closely facilitated to ensure everyone has a chance to listen and share ideas in a non-judgemental space.
After exploring one person’s challenge, we zoom out to discuss the broader context and how we can all apply these findings to our work.
