Malina Mihalache

H ello! I am Malina Mihalache and have been working as part of the Art & Architecture team on the research side of the project. I am currently a finalist History of Art and French undergraduate at Warwick and I am very interested in a career in the arts world.

The Then & Now project has allowed me to put my skills into practice in a way that I have not been able to do in my studies or through the work experience I have already completed.

It’s been a very unique and rewarding experiment, and I say experiment because it is nothing like anything else I have tried at university. It’s an amazing mix of new discoveries, archival research, learning and sharing what we have found with the larger public.

I have to say that COVID-19 has changed things a lot, as personally I was hoping to do a lot more archival research and also was really looking forward to the physical side of the exhibition. At the beginning it was hard to accept that everything changed at such fast pace. However, this challenge gave us even more flexibility considering everything was moved online.

Doing an online exhibition is equally exciting as it is something that I have not experienced before.

I am thus very excited to see what the online project is going to look like when it is finalised. It has been a very interesting journey and I can honestly say that I have learned a lot already, so I got a lot out of it.

I also had the chance of writing about the project for the Leamington Studio Artists’ journal ArtSpace for their 53rd issue which was a very enriching experience (Link on the Right!). And probable the biggest advantage of being forced to stay at home during the project: my working space is looking very different from what it would have looked at Warwick!
