Write an essay of approximately 2,500 (max. 3,000) words in response to ONE of the following questions:

1. What connections is it possible to detect between the uses of myth in Sappho and Stesichorus?

2. How varied is the manipulation of sympotic setting in Alcaeus and Anacreon?

3. ‘Paradoxically, Pindar’s greatest innovation is his self-conscious traditionality’ (Kurke, Traffic in Praise, 259). How traditional is Pindar?

For bibliography, use the bibliography tab on the module webpage, or the module booklet, in conjunction with close-reading with relevant critical editions. As a guide, you should try to concentrate your attention on at least 6 or 7 items.
