Taught MA funding

Congratulations to Kathryn Thompson and Simon Collier on their success in gaining Departmental/HEFCE match-funded fees and stipend grants to support postgraduate study. From September 2014, Kathryn will be studying the Taught Masters in Ancient Visual and Material Culture and Simon the Taught Masters in the Visual and Material Culture of Ancient Rome.


IATL Awards

Congratulations to Clare Rowan, Michael Scott and Zahra Newby for receiving awards from IATL to support innovative teaching. Clare will run a project ‘Communicating the Classics via Digital Storytelling’, which will be embedded in the teaching of the second-year core module Hellenistic World during 2014/15. Michael's project, 'Approaching the study of Greek religion' will run as part of his module on Greek Religion in 14-15. Zahra's project, 'Seeing, experiencing, doing: learning the methods of ancient art through performance and participation' will run as part of the module Art and Architecture in Asia Minor during 2014-15.

PhD Scholarships News

Congratulations to Marta Barbato and Miriam Hay who have been awarded PhD scholarships.

Marta will be a Wolfson Foundation Scholar working on 'Coins of the Republican period (late third to late first century BC) circulating in Central Italy and the coin sample from the ’sottosuolo urbano’ of Rome kept in the Medagliere Capitolino' , supervised by Dr Suzanne Frey-Kupper

Miriam has received a joint University-AHRC scholarship for her research on 'Early Christian and Late Antique Aesthetics in Art and Text', supervised by Dr Zahra Newby
