Jamie J. Zhao wins Warwick HRC's PhD and Early Career Research Fellowship

Dr. Jamie J. Zhao has won the Warwick PhD and Early Career Research Fellowship jointly funded by DARO and the HRC. This fellowship will support a research trip to China in July 2018 where she will be hosted by the Chinese Department of Xiamen University, Fujian Province, China.

During the four-week trip, Jamie, who is currently pursuing her second doctoral degree in Television Studies in the department, will collaborate with the faculty members in the research programs of Theatre, Film and Television, Literary Studies, and Anthropology at Xiamen University to co-organize academic events on feminist and queer understandings of Chinese media and public discourses. She will also present her research on Chinese queer TV and celebrity culture at the young scholar salon in the College of Humanities there.

Jamie will be co-teaching a summer course (with Prof. Ling Yang and other invited speakers) in Xiamen University's Chinese Department on the topic of the feminist and queer dimensions of contemporary pop China for a campus-wide audience.

These transnational collaborations and exchanges will generate a range of publications including two English-language special journal issues.
