New book published: Jon Burrows, 'The British Cinema Boom, 1909-1914: A Commercial History'
Palgrave Macmillan have just published a new book by Jon Burrows: The British Cinema Boom, 1909-1914: A Commercial History. The book examines how the British cinema industry was created via an intensive capital investment boom in the space of a few short years before the outbreak of the First World War. It studies the backgrounds and commercial fortunes of people who sank money into Edwardian cinema businesses, and also considers the impact of the rapid expansion of the film exhibition sector upon film distribution and production in Britain during this formative period. Dr Helen Wheatley will give the keynote paper, 'Haunted Landscapes: Trauma and Grief in the Television Ghost Story', at the 'At Home With Horror? Terror on the Small Screen' conference on Saturday 28th October 2017. The event takes place at the University of Kent between 27th and 29th October.
Warwick begins new teaching collaboration with world-renowned London Film School
The Department of Film and Television Studies is very proud to announce an exciting and ground-breaking collaboration with the world-renowned London Film School.
Students on the BA Film Studies degree are now able to apply for a place on a specialist third-year module in Film Production. Students will receive tuition in screenwriting directing, editing, cinematography and sound recording, and at the end of the module each student will produce a short film, using the skills they have learned and drawing upon the skills of their classmates.
The module is delivered by London Film School staff at Warwick and makes use of our new purpose-built edit suite and set of state of the art filmmaking equipment.

Dr. Tiago De Luca edits special journal issue on long duration films
Dr. Tiago De Luca has edited a special themed issue of the journal Aniki on long duration films. The issue features a short history of long duration by Tiago, an article from Dept. Associate Fellow Dr. Paul Cuff, as well as contributions from Lúcia Nagib, Glyn Davis, May Adadol Ingawanij, Lúcia Ramos Monteiro, and William Brown.
