The individual elements of your degree are known as modules. Each module has a different focus.

In October, you start three modules:

Contemporary Performance Practices. This practical, workshop-based module introduces you to lots of different artistic practices used by theatre-makers today

Theatre and Performance in Context. This lecture and seminar-based module helps you encounter the many ways in which theatre has responded to urgent social and political issues.

Ways of Seeing. Also taught through lectures and seminars, this module helps you get to grips with a variety of key academic theories, which you will use to dig deeper into different artistic works.

These continue in January, when you also start a second practical module, From Text to Performance, where you explore different ways to stage a variety of written works.

As you progress to years two and three, you will have the opportunity to pick up modules outside of Theatre and Performance Studies.

One thing we really value at Warwick is YOUR perspective. As a result, we don't set any preparatory reading before the course (there will be plenty of that once term starts). Instead, we ask you to come armed with your own ideas and perspectives. You might do this through reading plays or books on theatre (or any subject that might shape your academic and creative worldview), watching live or recorded theatre productions, participating in workshops, learning about practitioners that inspire you, or exploring current challenges facing theatre (and the world) through the news and social media.

If you've not seen much theatre, don't worry - this does not mean you're at all behind or need to catch up. And if you've been lucky enough to see loads, good for you - but this does not mean you're way ahead! Everybody's background is unique and everyone's perspective matters.

This degree is all about bringing your own passions to the table, sharing them with others and nurturing them during your time here.

The Library is available 24 hours for all students to use as needed. You can find a huge variety of resources, both online and in-person. All your required course reading will be available from the library.

Email: both the University and the department will communicate with you on your new Warwick email address (available once you've completed your enrolment). Make sure you check this account regularly!

MYWARWICK: you will have your own personalised 'My Warwick' account. This is where you'll be able to access your university emails, timetable, campus information and much more.

Tabula: an online system you will use to see your coursework deadlines, electronically submit assignments and download marking feedback. Full details and support will be provided once you arrive.

Moodle: Moodle is an online learning environment, where we store all key information on our modules. Once your IT access is set up, you will be able to access to the Moodle homepage and will find individual pages for all your modules.

Your course timetable will be available by the start of term.

Who is my personal tutor?

• Each student is allocated a personal tutor at Warwick. Usually, this is a member of the academic staff in your department.
• Your personal tutor will make contact during term 1, but you are very welcome to reach out to them directly whenever you need.

What is their role?

• Your personal tutor is your first point of contact within the department to discuss any issues that arise, whether pastoral or academic.
• You can draw on their experience and expertise as and when you need – they are your ongoing individual face-to-face relationship within the department and are here to support you throughout your time at Warwick.
• They are also the most obvious person to provide references for you after you graduate, so it is worthwhile investing time into developing a strong working relationship.

When will we meet?

• Your personal tutor may meet all their first-year tutees in a group at the start of term. After that, they will contact you via email to arrange individual meetings, where you can discuss how you are doing.
• You may request additional meetings as and when you need them.

How will we meet?

• Meetings will usually be in-person, in the staff offices on the 1st floor of the Faculty of Arts Building.

The Senior Tutor in Theatre and Performance Studies oversees the personal tutor system. They can provide more tailored support if needed, and can help with complex situations. The current Senior Tutor is Dr Freya Verlander, who you will meet during welcome week.

Our Director of Discipline is Professor Yvette Hutchison. She is responsible for the department overall.

Dr Natalie Diddams is our Admissions Tutor, and is responsible for managing your experience of applying to and joining Warwick. If you have any questions about this process, please email her.

Dr Ian Farnell is the Director of Undergraduate Studies, and is responsible for your course. If you have questions about the programme, please email Ian.

Theatre and Performance Studies sits within the School of Creative Arts, Performance and Visual Cultures. The school includes Film & TV Studies, History of Art, Warwick Writing Programme, and the Centre for Culture and Media Policy Studies. Our co-heads of school are Professor Rosie Dias and Professor Nadine Holdsworth.

The Undergraduate Programmes Office deals with the administration of your undergraduate degree. If you have any questions not covered during Welcome Week, please drop by the office in FAB2.50 in the Faculty of Arts Building. Please note: you will need a Warwick IT account to access the campus map - if you need to find the School office, it is on the second floor of the FAB, at the end of the corridor next to the two lifts.

The Warwick Careers team are here to support you throughout your time at university, and after you graduate. They offer in-person and remote services, flexible to your needs and other commitments.

SSLC stands for Student-Staff Liaison Committee. There are SSLCs in each department in the University that feed into both the Students' Union and the University administration.

SSLCs are committees made up of elected student representatives and members of staff. They are student-led and provide an area for students and staff to discuss ideas and solve problems connected with teaching, learning and student support.

If you're interested in the work of the SSLC, or have an issue you would like to be discussed, you should speak with one of your Course Representatives. If you have questions about the running of the SSLC, you should speak with the SSLC Chair.
