MASc Welcome Week 2024 Programme

You will be able to search for events and personalise your Welcome Week timetable from mid-September. Core activities offered by the Global Sustainable Development Department (below) will be automatically populated in your bespoke Welcome Week timetable.

You will use a system called Tabula to view your personalised course timetable. Your complete personalised academic timetable for Term 1 will be available on your Tabula page once you have registered for your modules and all your workshops/seminars have been assigned.

MASc GSD Welcome and Module Fair

The Director of PGT GSD, Nick Bernards and the Postgraduate Programmes Manager, Heather Robson, will welcome you to the School, Department and programme, providing an overview and key information on the MASc and being a postgraduate GSD student at Warwick. Taught module convenors will briefly present their modules and you will have the opportunity to speak with them individually. It will also be an opportunity to get to know your fellow students and other members of the postgraduate team finishing with a Q&A session.

MASc GSD Welcome: Capstone Modules and Research Integrity and Ethics

  • 10:00-11:00 - Capstone module leaders will present their modules and answer questions.
  • 11:00-12:00 - Interdisciplinarity and transdisciplinarity underpin our approach to Global Sustainable Development and this session will explore both the theory and the practice.

MASc GSD Welcome: Interdisciplinarity and Transdisciplinarity in GSD + Navigating PG Systems and Processes

  • 14:00-15:00 - This session will look at the ethical considerations and requirements for undertaking research, including when ethics approval must be obtained. Ethical approval facilitates and promotes ethical research that is of potential benefit to participants, science and society. It also safeguards researchers conducting the study, and protects the rights, safety, dignity and well-being of research participants.
  • 15:15 - 16:00 - Key Warwick PG Systems and Processes for your time in GSD - an introduction to Tabula and Moodle and how to navigate them before classes start, including where to find timetables and assessment information.

MASc GSD Welcome: Adapting to PG Student Life at Warwick

Adapting to life at Warwick - this session aims to highlight some key aspects of adapting to UK Higher Education at postgraduate level. It will include signposting to information on assignments, avoiding plagiarism and other key information.

In the second hour, some of our current and graduating students will join us to talk about their experiences and answer questions as well as explaining the role of the School's PG Student Staff Liaison Committee.

Introduction to Active Bystander Training

This session will explore what it means to be an Active Bystander. We’ll also cover key information around Consent and the University’s Report and Support platform. This session will support you in looking out for yourself and others during your time at Warwick, helping to ensure everyone has a safe and positive experience. Previous students have rated this session highly. Delivered by the Student Conduct team. Students are expected to attend.

Global Sustainable Development Treasure Hunt (optional)

Come and take part in our GSD Treasure Hunt! Starting in the Ramphal Building (where the Global Sustainable Development department is based), you will work in teams to solve clues and make your way across campus - a great way to familiarise yourself with your surroundings, learn about the department, and make friends with students from the other courses offered within GSD. Winners will receive a prize!
