Summary

Understanding the “student voice” in teamwork exercises can help identify new co-creation opportunities in the HE sector and ultimately allow educators to create a better, more valued learning experience. It is often reported in Student Satisfaction surveys that the designed teamwork in modules does not always leave a positive experience (i.e., issues of overpowering team-members and passenger team-members).

With an identified interest from numerous education committees to better identify educational best-practices, we set out to achieve the following in a student co-created project:

  • 1. Identify and establish best-practices from a student perspective in teamwork pedagogy across the University.

Having conducted a series of focus groups (with students and staff) and surveys we identified a series of themes which we feel are a starting point to have further discussions in establishing best-practices for teamwork pedagogy.

The results of the study will help us to achieve our secondary aim which is to work with key stakeholders in HE settings, with the following:

  • 2. Incorporate the student voice into the design of teamwork assessments and feedback.

This project will further help with creation of a ‘teamwork guide’ for students which encourages consistent and accessible teamwork training and support mechanisms for the broader university to address.
