Do student expectations from entry qualifications inhibit HE Biosciences learning?

Do student expectations from entry qualifications inhibit HE Biosciences learning?

Lead: Daniel Franklin

Team: Leda Mirbahai, Robert Spooner, David Tapp, Katrine Wallis

Year: 2024-2025

Summary

This project sets out to investigate how student expectations, shaped by pre-university Biology curricula, influence learning in higher education (HE). Many students enter Biosciences with factual misconceptions and misunderstandings which can affect confidence, performance, and importantly the ability to learn new things.

By examining the extent and origins of these misconceptions, the project aims to inform HE curriculum design and entry qualification revision, helping to smooth the transition into university-level Biosciences.
