Seminar 3: 'Children and sleep'

This third ESRC seminar in the ‘Sleep and Society’ seminar series will examine the salience and significance of sleep in children’s lives, taking a child-centred perspective and approach. Key themes and issues addressed will include cross-cultural variations in children’s sleeping patterns, practices and bed time rituals, the role and function of children’s night lights, the negotiation and management of children’s sleep across the public/private divide, whether or not children are getting ‘enough’ sleep, the impact of social, psychological and biological factors on children’s sleep quantity and quality, and the relationship between parents and children’s sleep.
