WIRL COFUND Fellow, Isabelle Heyerick, has started an additional research project investigating the impact of the (in)visibility of signed languages and signed language interpreters during the COVID-19 pandemic on new learners’ motivation. The enquiry is conducted across six institutions in respectively the UK, Belgium, The Netherlands and Canada.
Throughout the pandemic Isabelle Heyerick, as vice-president of an organisation offering continued professional development for signed language interpreters in Flanders (Belgium), has rolled out several initiatives. Additionally, two webinars on the challenges and demands of online interpreting will go ahead this month. Next month, interpreters can join an online workshop on professional self-care in these unprecedented times.
