Spring Schedule 2024

Please see below the Spring Accolade Schedule for all the events that will be held this spring term. Information on times, locations, facilitators and learning outcomes for each session are listed below. If you'd like to receive invitations to our events, please join our network of postdocs as an Associate Fellow. Alternatively, you are welcome to contact us at ECR@warwick.ac.uk.


All Accolade sessions will be held in the IAS Seminar Room C0.02 on a Wednesday at 13:00.

There will be a networking lunch every Wednesday in IAS Common Room C0.06 before the Accolade sessions from 12:00-13:00.

Accolade Panel + Workshop: Organising and Running Academic Events

Learning Outcomes:

  • Gain an understanding of the activity support available to you during your fellowship.

    • Consider the questions you may need to consider before, during and after an event to make it successful.

    Much of the session will be shaped around the dilemmas and questions you put forward to the panel, but indicative topics that may be covered include:

    • Advice on planning a hybrid or in person event.

    • How to apply for funding to support your event.

    • How to maximise networking opportunities during the event.

    Accolade Athena Professional Workshop: Being resilient and resourceful under pressure as an individual, a collaborator and as a leader

    Being an academic is a tough job. In this session we will talk about the realities of academic practice and consider the impact of stress on behaviour. We will consider ways to manage our own behaviour and support positive working culture.

     

    Learning Outcomes:
    • Consider “resilience” and what it means in academic practice.

    • Think about how stress manifests in behaviour and the potential for impact on others.

    • Identify strategies for sustaining resourcefulness.


    Accolade Athena Professional Workshop: Using coaching skills to have better conversations as a supervisor and teacher.

    As colleagues and tutors we want to share our expertise AND support and challenge others to take responsibility for their own learning. In this session we will explore this duality between the role of academic as expert and as enabler. Building on the introduction to coaching workshops in term one, we will consider how a coaching approach can help others by fostering curiosity and exploration. We will also consider the value of questioning and active listening in sustaining positive working relationships.

    Learning Outcomes:

    • Consider the role of academic as expert and enabler of learning.
    • Practice asking open questions and listening actively.
    • Identify ways to sustain relationships.

    Accolade: Codifying Interdisciplinary Publishing: Just What is it Anyway?

    With Gareth J Johnson, Managing Editor-in-Chief, Exchanges.

    In this discursive session, Exchanges’ Chief Editor will be joined by other scholars in informed and informal debate, as they tackle the knotty question of what comprises interdisciplinary publishing. With space for interactions, provocations and interjections from attendees, this session will attempt to illuminate the extant disparate definitions and challenges to becoming an interdisciplinary publishing practitioner. Delegates may find the podcast episode ‘Interdisciplinarity & Publishing: A Panel Discussion’ a useful pre-session briefing in shaping their thoughts and questions.


    Accolade: Research Snapshot and End-of-Term Social

    13th March 2023 | 13:00 - 17:00

    Location: IAS Seminar Room C0.02 and IAS Common Room C0.06

    With the IAS Team

    This event will give our Fellows the opportunity to present a snapshot of their research to the IAS community. Each fellow will have 3 minutes and one slide to communicate their work in an ‘elevator pitch’ style presentation. Each session will be followed with questions to encourage innovative conversation, networking and potential collaboration between research disciplines. The audience will have the chance to vote for their favourite talk, with the winner of the Research Snapshot Event receiving a prize which will be awarded during the end-of-term social.
