Meeting & Communications Etiquette

Warwick Chemistry are committed to building an inclusive culture where everyone is treated with dignity and respect. A place where we all feel safe to voice our opinion, share our ideas, ask questions, and challenge without fear of consequences.

Our ground rules apply to all forms of communication.

Staff and committee meetings are discussions, not debates

We participate in these meetings to hear many points of view and explore many options and solutions, not to win an argument.

Be positive

Be positive about other people’s contributions and ideas and be specific about which aspects you might disagree with. Do not pick on negatives only.

Listen actively

Avoid interrupting and make an effort to understand the speaker's perspective before responding.

Respect your colleagues

Treat others as you would wish to be treated. Do not publicly attack or demean individual colleagues or discount another person’s value because of their role.

Be prepared and engaged

Read any papers that are sent ahead of time to avoid misunderstandings – know the facts before you speak. Try not to multi-task, but if you must please be discreet.
