Martin Lee

Before returning to academia I spent six years in the automotive industry working for Audi UK. I started studying Astrophysics in 2011 at Aberystwyth university where I obtained my 1st class honours degree.

My final year dissertation project involved creating a Zernike polynomial fitting algorithm to analyse optical surface data. This method of analysis is widely used as the industry standard for optical metrology, particularly in the production of high quality optical surfaces.

Upon graduating I spent just under two years working in industry as an optical engineer. I now look forward to moving my focus into photonics and laser physics. My PhD research topic will involve the use of diamonds in semiconductor disk laser systems for quantum technology, based at the University of Strathclyde. The CDT DST is a great opportunity to be at the heart of a large community of experts in multiple disciplines.

PhD Title: Compact, Diamond-Cooled and Stabilised Semiconductor Disk Lasers for Quantum Technology
PhD Supervisor: Dr Jennifer Hastie
Institution: University of Strathclyde
