Here's what Phil said about the Conference:

The New Diamond and Nano Carbon conference was held in Cairns, Australia for the 2017 meeting. Here parallel sessions focussed on both diamond and graphene for a variety of applications ranging from power electronics to quantum information processing, as presented by many recognisable names in the field. Outside of the parallel sessions, poster presentations allowed students and academics to talk about their work, to which I contributed in the second session. As a graphic designer in previous employment, I always favour the poster design with several colourful design elements to create a unique and standout piece. This approach certainly resulted in many people stopping and paying attention to my work, which invited many fruitful discussions as well as opening up collaborations with other well established groups. I am very pleased that my poster was well received and recognised, and very humbled to have received the “Best Poster Prize” for my session.
