Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology focuses on developing academic staff to cope with COVID-19

A group of staff attend a training session, all are wearing masks, they sit in small groups discussing contentCOVID-19 has changed the world in all aspects. In Vietnam, COVID-19 has forced the educational system to quickly adapt to the new situation. Digital transition is the key measure to mitigate challenges when social distancing is applied and traditional face-to-face teaching is dangerous for public health. Recognizing the difficulties of organizing online teaching and learning, HCMUT focuses on training its academic staff about teaching techniques and assessment in online environment. In 2020, a series of workshops entitled the In-country Workshops was organized. The series provided HCMUT lecturers with knowledge of teaching techniques and activities to increase student engagement in online classes. The workshops helped HCMUT lecturers to prepare their videos, class activities and lectures properly and effectively. Then, teaching effectiveness is increased.

In 2021, COVID-19 situation is much more serious than it was in 2020. Blended teaching of online and face-to-face classes cannot be applied. HCMUT lecturers have to teach in a total online environment. Difficulties and obstacles have been reported and recorded. Therefore, HCMUT continues to organize the workshop series. The series will focus on online student assessment, online testing techniques and evaluation and assessment of program outcomes. It will help HCMUT lecturers to enhance their capability when teaching in a total online environment. This year, with the participation of ENHANCE partners, the workshops are expected to achieve more successes. Exchanges and sharing on different perspectives and experiences from ENHANCE partners will importantly contribute to the workshop outcomes.
