Competition for your engineering and manufacturing students

Students would need to design a product that is primarily manufactured from one of the following materials, and could include additional materials such as fabric, plastic, and wood etc:

· Open cell polyurethane foam

· Reticulated foam

· Closed cell polyethylene foam

· Viscoelastic foam

· Pre Polymer foam

 

In addition to a £2,000 cash prize, the company would also support the winner by offering them extra support in the following areas:

· Patent investigation

· Research and development into suitable raw material (worldwide)

· Manufacturing of prototypes, including covering initial tooling costs

· Full product costings

· Packaging Design

· Determining best production processes

· Logistics

· Establishing a marketing plan, including route-to-market

· Full administration support (including accounts, quality)

· Getting the product launched and presented to potential customers!

The competition would be open to all UK based students, up to the age of 25.

Technical Foam Services recognise that entrants might also wish to protect their design prior to submitting it to the competition and so would be prepared to sign a Confidentiality Agreement in advance of submission.

For emergencies or urgent safety concerns, please contact the University 24-hour Community Safety line: +44 (0)2476 522083. Community Safety operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

In the event of an emergency on campus requiring ambulance, police or fire brigade, call 22222 from an internal telephone. If you are on campus and you use a mobile to call for an emergency service (999), you should also then call 024 76 5 22222. This alerts the University Community Safety team and will enable the emergency vehicle to be speedily escorted to where it is required on the campus.
