The mission of the summer school is to supplement the education of civil engineeringstudents with a compressive, student-driven design competition for a pedestrianovercrossing that meets client specifications and optimizes performance and economy. The design competition increases awareness of real-world engineering issues, forexample, spatial constraints, serviceability, safety, aesthetics, construction processes, and cost. Success in competition requires not only application of engineering principlesand theory, effective teamwork, but also innovation of structural materials, components, systems or technologies. The summer school is also believed to provide an excellentplatform for the international students to work together, understand various cultures, andbuild friendships.
