EU project founded PhD Studentships - Staffordshire University

Applications are invited for two-three PhD research studentships at Staffordshire University, working in “Integrating with External Systems in the Water Supply Chain”. The research is part of a European Union research project in this area, whose overall aim is to develop a web-based Open Management Platform (OMP), integrating intelligent systems through open interfaces, to enable water supply distribution chains to be managed in a unified and customized way. The EU project includes partners from Spain, Greece and Germany and there will potentially be opportunities for collaboration with these partners and travel to meetings within Europe.

The successful applicants will need to be self-motivated, enquiring of mind and committed to succeed in this advanced research. They are likely to have knowledge of databases, data interoperability and integration, data sharing and multi agent systems, as well as XML programming, sensor web enablement (SWE) and Sensor observation service (SOS). A programming background is desirable. The successful applicants will be able to present and communicate information on research progress and outcomes orally, in writing and electronically.

 Entry Requirements: A recently awarded Honours degree (or equivalent) is required in Computing. technology or Engineering. An MSc in a relevant subject area and/or previous experience of open platform interface and integrated system design would be an advantage but is not essential. These positions are funded at the standard RCUK rate of £13,600 per annum for three years, along with a full fee waiver. Students from overseas are eligible. The studentships should be taken up as soon as possible
