Conference and exhibition for the natural gas industry

Conference

· a one-day conference on Day 2 of Gastech, run exclusively for students who are studying energy related courses (for example engineering, physics, geology & so on) and are looking to pursue a career in the energy sector.

· The Programme is comprised of very senior figures from the industry, most of which feature in the main Gastech conference, who will discuss key themes, as well as touching upon their own experience of working in the industry. The 2011 agenda is attached for your information the topics for discussion at the 2012 event can be found here: http://www.gastech.co.uk/conference/student-programme/2012-student-programme/

· The aim of the SP is to give students a better understanding of the industry, an awareness of different careers and directions available, and to allow them to network with some of the most respected individuals in the business.

· The SP runs for one day, however students will also gain access to the Opening Day of the main Gastech conference (8th Oct), full access to the exhibition for the duration of Gastech (8th – 11th Oct) and access to http://www.igniteyourcareer.co.uk/ – Gastech’s Energy Recruitment Show (9th & 10th Oct).

· In order to apply, students simply need to complete a straight forward form, attach their CV and complete a brief paragraph on why they wish to attend Gastech & what they believe they will gain from the experience. This can be done via the Student Programme website – http://www.gastech.co.uk/conference/student-programme/

Along with the help of the Chairmen and Sponsors, we will select 60 students (from the hundreds of applications that we tend to receive).

Whilst we only have 60 places on the Student day, Gastech still has an awful lot on offer for students who wish to learn about the industry and the job opportunities available. With Gastech being in the UK this year, we want to take advantage of the fact that some of the world’s leading universities are in travelling distance of the event, and welcome as many students as possible to visit the exhibition and ignite! The exhibition will hold approximately 400 exhibitors from a cross-section of the natural gas industry, giving students the opportunity to network with industry professionals and learn about the industry in more detail, including project developments and technological advancements. Secondly, ignite! will give students an opportunity to meet with an exhibition full of leading companies in the industry who are heavily recruiting at the moment, helping the students understand what employment openings are available and what recruiters want to see from them. The http://www.igniteyourcareer.co.uk/ gives more information on who we currently have confirmed to participate and which free-to-attend conference sessions will be running alongside the exhibition. With this opportunity in mind, we are looking into the possibility of laying on coaches for the day to bring a group of students down to Gastech. I am approaching the leading universities in the UK to try and gauge what interest there is. Is this something that could be of interest to your students?

The facebook page for the Student Programme is as follows: http://www.facebook.com/GastechStudentProgramme I will also forward you the Student Programme html which can be emailed out to students advertising this opportunity.

Is this something that your department would be able to advertise to the engineering students? I am ideally looking to forge some strong relationships with universities in the UK for Gastech 2012, but also for future Gastech events when we move outside of the UK.
