Study Abroad at the University of Tokyo - AIKOM Exchange

The University of Tokyo is Japan's most prestigious institution, with a special place in most aspects of Japanese affairs. The University of Tokyo at Komaba is located in west-central Tokyo. Warwick is the only British university to be invited to join this exchange scheme, which is a product of the Japanese government's internationalisation policies.

The University of Warwick participates because we believe that it provides a unique opportunity to explore, experience, and learn about Japan over a 10 to 12 month exchange. AIKOM is designed to provide upper-division undergraduates from around the globe with an exciting learning experience in the company of superbly trained professors and active, highly motivated students from all over Japan.

The exchange is open to any Warwick undergraduate of any nationality (other than a Japanese national) who is in their 2nd year at the time of applying, or the 3rd year of a 4 year degree course, regardless of department or course:

· From October 2014 for a full academic year, with the option to stay on for the summer vacation, July/August 2015.

· No prior knowledge of Japanese language is needed: only a genuine interest in learning Japanese (on a structured course) and in taking Japanese language classes for beginners and courses in the English medium on contemporary Japan, Japanese culture and society.

· Guaranteed accommodation in a university hall of residence in Tokyo at a subsidised rate.

To apply, interested students will need to complete the application form, containing a short essay (300 words maximum) on why they want to participate, and in what way they think that they will benefit from a year in Japan. Applications will need to be supported by a reference from an academic tutor who teaches them or knows them well.

The closing date for applications and reference submission for AIKOM 2014/15 exchange is 16.00 31st January 2014.

Please view the Study Abroad AIKOM page for more information, and to view the fantastic feedback from some of Warwick’s previous AIKOM participants. You can also see a factsheet on the University of Tokyo on the Study Abroad Current Partners Page.
