ELVES - Electric Vehicles with Sounds

The lack of sound emitted is of particular detriment to the blind, the elderly, children and cyclists - research using US accident data found that during some maneuvers (mainly low speed driving and reversing) an EV or HEV is twice as likely as a conventional IC vehicle to be involved in a collision with a pedestrian.

To alleviate this problem, we are designing and prototyping a sound synthesis system to be fitted onto quiet vehicles.

The sound to be emitted is subject of debate and as such we will be using subjective and objective methods to select the ideal sound.

Evaluation

The link to the subjective evaluation on our website is here - http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/sci/eng/meng/evws/evaluation. The evaluation will take no more than 5 minutes to complete.
