What are your career development needs?

Research has identified a major gap is likely to develop in the rail industry, especially in engineering skills. We are therefore looking for the brightest candidates to join this exciting sector and build the community of future rail leaders and educators.

For this reason, RRUKA, the Young Railway Professionals (YRP) and FutureRailway have jointly organised the Next Generation Rail conference (see email below), which addresses the challenges of

• attracting the younger generation to the rail industry by demonstrating that it is an exciting sector to work in;
• retaining young talent, enhancing their skills and developing an active and effective interaction between tomorrow’s rail leaders and educators;
• promoting innovation in rail transport.
Now in its 2nd year, Next Generation Rail has been created for early-career researchers, PhD students and young professionals who would like to get involved in the rail industry and enhance their professional development within their studies and career. The conference will offer a great opportunity to network, attend skill-focussed workshops, find out about the many opportunities that rail has to offer and take part in a number of competitions with a number of cash prizes up for take!

As Warwick University is one of 39 RRUKA members we would like to encourage postgraduate and research students from your institution to attend. Given that the event will have a rail focus, we would appreciate if you could pass this message to Masters and PhD students, research associates and lecturers within the following departments:

· Engineering and Physical Science
· Computer Science
· Mathematics
· Business Admin / Management
· Psychology (there is a great interest in human factors in rail)
Attached is a copy of the conference flyer. Please advise if you would like us to send any hardcopies for distribution within your Careers Office and the University.

Please also be aware that there are group booking discounts available for groups of 5 or more attendees from the same organisation, therefore you may wish to also distribute this email amongst the relevant Heads of Programmes and Heads of Schools.

Emergency and Support Links

For emergencies or urgent safety concerns, please contact the University 24-hour Community Safety line: +44 (0)2476 522083. Community Safety operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

In the event of an emergency on campus requiring ambulance, police or fire brigade, call 22222 from an internal telephone. If you are on campus and you use a mobile to call for an emergency service (999), you should also then call 024 76 5 22222. This alerts the University Community Safety team and will enable the emergency vehicle to be speedily escorted to where it is required on the campus.

If you're struggling but it's not an emergency, please contact Wellbeing.

If you are a parent or guardian there is more information on what to do if you have concerns: warwick.ac.uk/services/wss/parents/#concern.
