Volunteers needed for research project

Volunteers are needed for a postdoctoral project about finger motion capture The study will validate a method that will be later used to validate mathematical models of the fingers and create novel, body-powered finger prostheses. The project is within the School of Engineering, as part of an ESPRC funded project.

The volunteers will get to experience the School of Engineering’s VICON Gait Lab, which uses infra-red cameras to work out the positioning and motion of human hands. Volunteers will be asked to wear small reflective markers (which the infrared cameras will track). They will then be asked to carry out a series of ordinary tasks, sometimes with holding commonplace items.

The experiment will ordinarily last for approximately a couple of hours.

For safety, social distancing will be practiced, the Laboratory will be aired, and the contacted surfaces will be cleaned in between sessions. In addition, the researcher will wear a mask. For the experiment to run safely, you will be required to please adhere to the latest University Covid guidelines, found at: https://warwick.ac.uk/coronavirus/

All equipment used is non-invasive, and the date and time can be suited to your availability.

Summary of above:

• Use School of Engineering’s VICON Gait Lab with infra-red cameras to track movement of hands and arms

• Two hours of your time

• For your safety, COVID measures will be in place

• Non-invasive equipment

Attached to this email is the information leaflet, which contains the project information in more detail.
