Dr Jim Wallbank
|
It is with sadness that the School of Engineering and WMG report that Dr Wallbank passed away in hospital on Saturday morning. Dr Wallbank had been a member of staff since 1981 and in that period had significantly contributed to the development of the undergraduate and Masters courses within the two departments. He will be sadly missed by staff and students alike. |
Free Places on British Tunnelling Society Course
After the success of the sponsorship for universities students to attend The British Tunnelling Society Tunnel Design and Construction Course (BTS D&C Course) last year, the British Tunnelling Society (BTS), a learned society of the Institution of Civil Engineers, would like to invite 5 students to attend the course for free again. The course aims to provide a comprehensive introduction to all aspects of tunnelling and is great for any young engineers who want to have a career in the tunnelling industry to attend and meet young engineers who are already in the industry. The course is well attended each year with international attendees, countries include Hong Kong, India and the Middle-East.
The course runs between 2nd to 6th July at the University of Warwick . We are running a competition to which we will pick the best 5 students to attend (irrespective of the 5 participating universities). If you are interested, please answer the question ‘What do you hope to gain?’ in no more than 500 words by 31st May and submit it to Anita Wu [Anita.Wu@lbassoc.co.uk].
For more information about the BTS, visit http://britishtunnelling.org.uk/

For emergencies or urgent safety concerns, please contact the University 24-hour Community Safety line: +44 (0)2476 522083. Community Safety operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
In the event of an emergency on campus requiring ambulance, police or fire brigade, call 22222 from an internal telephone. If you are on campus and you use a mobile to call for an emergency service (999), you should also then call 024 76 5 22222. This alerts the University Community Safety team and will enable the emergency vehicle to be speedily escorted to where it is required on the campus.
If you're struggling but it's not an emergency, please contact Wellbeing.
