Induction

It is essential that all new staff and students undergo a timely health and safety induction. The health and safety induction process forms the basis from which new staff and students can quickly get up to speed and carry out their activities in a safe manner, whilst also positively contributing to a culture of mutual responsibility for health & safety in the School of Engineering.

As part of the School of Engineering health and safety induction all new staff and students must:

All postgraduate research students, academic and technical staff, and staff with line management responsibilities must:

 

All staff and postgraduate research students who use display screen equipment for an hour or more at a time and on a regular daily basis must:

  • complete a Display Screen Equipment Self-Assessment and return it to your line manager or supervisor for review

All new staff must:

  • be given a tour of the department highlighting fire and first aid notices, and main escape routes; undergo a local School of Engineering health and safety induction with the Facilities Manager.

 

In addition all new academic and technical staff must:

  • meet with the School of Engineering’s Health and Safety Officer and receive a hazard specific induction.

 

All staff and students intending to work in hazard containing spaces must:

  • undergo a space specific induction which should be determined by the space owner, line managers or supervisors. This may involve local rules, emergency plans or identification of specific training needs by line managers / supervisors.
