Warwick Engineering hosts 24-hour hackathon this weekend
WarwickHACK will take place over the weekend of 15-16 November. Organised by our newest student society WarwickTECH, it is expected to attract 75 participants from Warwick and surrounding universities.
The hackathon will bring together student programmers, entrepreneurs, designers and developers to build, make and create. The event is a classic hackathon, where students have an intensive 24 hours to collaborate on software and hardware projects, such as modifying existing computer interface hardware or creating new data visualisation tools.
Hackathons are a type of event that happen all over the world and are increasingly being seen as an incubator for the next wave of high tech entrepreneurs and an opportunity for employers to see what new and innovative ideas potential employees can come up with.
The WarwickTECH hackathon is aimed at a wide range of skill sets. For people who are just starting off with hackathons, there is a team-based event, where there will be focussed support with mentors from the event partner, Major League Hacking (MLH). There will also be a free form stream, for both individuals and teams. The sponsors will be opening up their software programming interfaces for the event and prizes can be won for the most innovative, creative and different solutions.
MLH will also bring along their hardware lab, including gadgets from companies such as Oculus VR, Leap Motion and Pebble. The School of Engineering will also be opening access to the student Digital Workshop, giving access to 3D printers and laser cutting.
