Warwick Engineering sponsors high-calibre students through Arkwright Scholarships Trust
We are delighted to introduce our first ever Arkwright Scholars; Jaskieran Dhandwar from Queen Mary's Grammar School in Walsall and Bilal Khattab from King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Boys in Birmingham. Jaskieran and Bilal fought off competition from 1,172 other applicants to win two of just 372 Scholarships and have over 26 GCSEs between them, including 17 A*s.
Karen Bradbury, Director of Undergraduate Admissions at the School of Engineering joined Jaskieran, Bilal and their families at the Mermaid Theatre in London on 1 November 2013 to take part in the Arkwright Awards ceremony.
Warwick Alumnus Yewande Akinola gave an inspiring welcome speech about her work at Arup, a global professional services firm for the built environment. Yewande graduated in 2007 and was awarded the prestigious IET Young Woman Engineer of the Year in 2013.
The awards were presented by Jonathan Firth, Director of Operations and Projects for Virgin Galactic, who gave a fascinating key-note speech about the engineering challenges they have overcome to enable ordinary people to journey into space.
We look forward to hosting our scholars for a number of visits to the University over the next two years, helping them to launch their engineering careers and complete their A2 studies.
