EU Research Grant for Earthquake Engineers
Dr George Kamaris and Associate Professor Theo Karavasilis have been recently granted a competitive EU (FP7 People Program) IEF Marie-Curie research grant with value €225k Euros. The project focuses on seismic resilience and aims to develop a novel damage-free seismic-resistant steel frame. Dr Kamaris will conduct for 2 years integrated experimental and analytical research at Warwick Univ. and will collaborate with Post-Docs and Phds of the Resilient Steel and Steel-Concrete Composite Structures Lab (http://www.eng.warwick.ac.uk/staff/tk/index.html) led by Dr Karavasilis.
Theo says: "Recent large earthquakes in the European continent (Greece 2014, Italy 2012, Turkey 2011) resulted in loss of life and injuries as well as in enormous economic losses related to repair costs and disruption of infrastructure service. Our Lab develops smart damage-free steel frames so that buildings can return to service within an acceptable short, if not immediate, time after a strong earthquake. Dr Kamaris is an expert in seismic resistant design of steel structures and his Marie-Curie Fellowship will be a success story."
