Prestigious Fellowship for Engineering Professor
The IEEE Board of Directors, at its November 2018 meeting, elevated Professor Julian Gardner to IEEE Fellow, effective 1 January 2019, with the following citation: for contributions to electronic noses and gas sensors.
IEEE Fellow is a distinction reserved for select IEEE members whose extraordinary accomplishments in any of the IEEE fields of interest are deemed fitting of this prestigious grade elevation. Less than 0.1% of voting members are selected annually for this member grade elevation. There are only a handful of IEEE Fellows across the UK – mainly in Cambridge, Imperial and Oxford Universities! This is, we believe, the first time that an academic in Engineering at Warwick University has been elevated to IEEE Fellow status but surely not the last.
Speaking of the honour, Prof. Gardner said:
“I am delighted to have been made an IEEE Fellow and grateful for the support of the Instrumentation & Measurement Society. I hope that the award helps raise the profile of sensors research within the UK as an emerging area of national importance.”
