Gravity-driven flows in stratified fluids

In this talk I will describe the dynamics of interfacial intrusions in two-layered and multilayered fluids. I will show how classical gravity current ideas on transfers of available potential energy to kinetic energy provide a basis for describing the dynamics of intrusions and how this, in turn, allows us to examine the flow of one stratified fluid into another. The theory will be compared with laboratory experiments and numerical simulations.
