Thermal Energy PhD Event
Thermal Energy PhD Event – Monday 23rd January, 3pm, D100
Are you interested in a PhD in thermal energy? If so, the Sustainable Thermal Energy Technologies (STET) research group in the School of Engineering are holding an event on Monday 23rd January so that interested students can find out more!
The group is led by Professor Bob Critoph, Dr Stan Shire and Dr Zak Tamainot-Telto, and has several large research grants to develop low carbon heating and cooling technologies. Heating and cooling accounts for over a third of UK greenhouse gas emissions and decarbonising this sector remains one of the biggest challenges to achieving Net Zero.
The group’s largest research grant, LoT-NET, is a £5m six-year programme to investigate how waste heat can be recovered, used and incorporated in smart, thermal and electrical energy systems. STET also have a wide range of facilities, from equipment for thermal analysis through to large test areas for prototype technologies. Past and present PhD students have gained substantial practical experience in the design, building and control of novel heating and cooling technologies!
Potential PhD topics could be focused on the areas of heat networks, heat pumps and refrigeration, smart energy materials, waste heat capture and storage, heat transfer, sorption technologies and solar thermal.
The event will include a short presentation, a tour of the research facilities and the chance to talk to current PhD students. Please register for the event here.
