The guidance below has been created to support employers and students undertaking placements within the University of Warwick's School of Life Science to understand the School's role in placement delivery.

Pre-placement
- Provide a named contact and appropriate contact point within the department, for the duration of the placement
- Ensure all parties are aware of their responsibilities (department, student and Placement Provider)
- Brief students to best prepare them for their placement, including health and safety expectations and expected conduct
- Establish and communicate procedures to all parties for instances where responsibilities are not met
On placement
- Establish check-in points and maintain contact with students during their placement.
- Ensure student wellbeing is monitored through contact points, and signpost to relevant services wherever necessary.

Monitor the safety and suitability of the placement, and work with the placement provider to mitigate any concerns identified. Where efforts to address such concerns are not effective, the School take steps to ensure student’s safety and wellbeing, which could include advising the student to leave the placement and supporting them in seeking an alternative arrangement.
- Inform the Placement Provider if there are new factors that will affect completion of the placement or change the planned end date
- Support students as and when required with; the transition to the workplace; queries; and issues
- Provide activities or materials for students, to reflect on, and capture learnings from, their experience
- Prepare students for returning to study with relevant supporting information, which may include: changes in the department, module information, information about accommodation for the following year
Post-placement
- Coordinate and evaluate feedback from all parties (department, student and Placement Provider) to inform the review, monitoring and development of future placement activities at a departmental and institutional level
- Enable students to integrate learning from their placement into future studies
