Spotlights

Spotlights MIR@W sessions
Organisers: Robert Mackay; Randa Herzallah
We are running a series of sessions under the auspices of Mathematical Interdisciplinary Research at Warwick (MIR@W) to explore how mathematics can contribute to the University of Warwick Interdisciplinary Research Spotlights. The aim is to raise awareness in the Mathematics department of the Spotlights’ activities, aspirations, and opportunities, and to identify where Mathematicians can engage.
Each session consists of a presentation from one of the Spotlight Leads followed by a discussion around current and potential involvement of mathematics.

Other sessions to be arranged will be added to this page

Who should attend? Anyone in Mathematics curious about interdisciplinary work (including those already involved in Spotlights), as well as colleagues from other departments seeking mathematical input into a Spotlight project.
Format: 25–30 min presentation, 20–25 min open discussion.
Hybrid/recording: yes.
Join (in person): just turn up

Meeting ID: 328 910 516 597 46
Passcode: me6e9kX3
Outcome: A short list of next steps (contacts, project ideas, and follow-ups) for each Spotlight.
Discussion prompts (to guide the open discussion):
  1. What mathematics is most needed in the next 12 months for this Spotlight?
  2. What datasets/partners are available, or missing, and who can help unlock access?
  3. What low-cost, high-impact collaborations could we start now (studentships, mini-projects, joint seminars)?
