Location: Online

David Nickson

David Nickson is a Doctoral Student in WMG, his PhD concerns the use of machine learning and related techniques for the identification/diagnosis of depression using data, such as Electronic Health Records, readily available in primary care.

‘EHRs, Machine Learning & Depression Diagnosis/Prediction: A replication study

The talk considers the use of an Electronic Health Records (EHRs) based Depression prediction algorithm for young people, replicating a study conducted 7 years ago here at Warwick in partnership with Birmingham University. It includes an overview of how that application, combining Logistic Regression with UK EHRs, works and the results obtained. It goes on to look at the replication, lessons learned, problems solved and some implications for the development of implementable applications. There are considerations of the clinical and machine learning issues identified. Based on previous delivery of the lecture within WMG and at CEDAR at Warwick, it is accessible to those without a specialist statistical or coding knowledge (though a bit of code is sneaked in!).
