How do I use this calendar?

You can click on an event to display further information about it.

The toolbar above the calendar has buttons to view different events. Use the left and right arrow icons to view events in the past and future. The button inbetween returns you to today's view. The button to the right of this shows a mini-calendar to let you quickly jump to any date.

The dropdown box on the right allows you to see a different view of the calendar, such as an agenda or a termly view.

If this calendar has tags, you can use the labelled checkboxes at the top of the page to select just the tags you wish to view, and then click "Show selected". The calendar will be redisplayed with just the events related to these tags, making it easier to find what you're looking for.

Dr Michael Sykes - 'Enhancing quality improvement'
A151 or online via link

Michael Sykes

Dr Michael Sykes is a Senior Research Fellow in the department of Nursing, Midwifery & Health at Northumbria University. Michael is a nurse and implementation scientist, whose work seeks to enhance the effectiveness of quality improvement interventions, particularly audit and feedback (also known as clinical audit and clinical performance feedback).

‘Enhancing quality improvement’

Audit and feedback is a much-used (maybe even over-used) quality improvement intervention. As such, even modest enhancement offers the ability to improve care to large numbers of patients.

This talk will describe a series of studies seeking to enhance improvement from audit and feedback. This includes studies in dementia, orthopaedics, diabetes, in England and in Ireland. This will include:

  • Work to describe the current response to national, regional and local audit;
  • Co-design studies to enhance improvement in different contexts;
  • A review of how others have designed 'feedback facilitation'; and
  • A current NIHR-funded randomised controlled trial, process and economic evaluation (EQUIPD study; co-leads Michael Sykes & Robbie Foy).

This latter work involves delivery of a Quality Improvement Collaborative as a co-intervention to national audit. The Quality Improvement Collaborative aims to increase the improvement capabilities of feedback recipients, towards the goal of increasing the use of NICE-recommended insulin pumps.
