A pinch of salt

THE world's food is far too salty and too many countries are still ignoring the World Health Organisation's (WHO) guidelines on what should be a healthy level of salt in our daily diet , according to a report. Professor Franco Cappuccio, of Warwick University's medical school, says some countries have developed their own higher targets for salt intake while others do not currently have any national recommendation on salt. The WHO recommends our salt intake should be less than five grams per day: the UK's Food Standards Agency recommends less than six grams each day.
