Professor Franco Cappuccio secures WHO Collaborating Centre for Nutrition for another four years.
Congratulations to Professor Franco Cappuccio who received confirmation that his WHO Collaborating Centre for Nutrition has been re-designated for a further four years. This is an excellent achievement, there is only one other such centre in the UK for nutrition which relates to oral health. Franco’s work over the first four years with WHO has led to him advising governments across Europe and the Americas on the detrimental impact of high levels of salt on public health and developing policy to aid salt reduction. His work has taken him all over the world, has earned him over 30 publications and provided him with excellent REF returnable impact statements. He is the only technical advisor from a non-governmental body at the European Salt Action Network and this is testament to his eminent knowledge and work in this area. He is currently working closely with countries in the East Mediterranean region including Jordan, Egypt, UAE, Oman, Morocco, Lebanon and Iran on the implementation of population salt reduction.
The WHO Collaborating Centre for Nutrition (http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/med/staff/cappuccio/who) presents a fabulous opportunity for other academics in WMS and across the wider university who have an interest in nutrition to get involved. It exposes academics to a world platform for networking and collaborations and there are opportunities for European grant applications and publications. If you are interested in finding out more about the Centre or how you can get involved please email on F.P.Cappuccio@warwick.ac.uk.
